Thai Artists | Pratuang Emjaroen

Pratuang Emjaroen (1935-2022) is a National Artist and was one of Thailand's most important modernist painters. He was a self-taught artist who said about his art: "My paintings portray all happenings in the course of nature and the way of life; be it ugliness or horror, cruelty or love and care; be it joyous smiles or sad tears; be it trouble or peace." Alas, his works embrace lives, society and the whole universe, often viewed through the lens of Buddhism. Colours, though perhaps mostly light, play a significant role in his works.
