Vietnamese Artists | Cong Kim Hoa
Cong Kim Hoa was born in Hanoi in 1962 and graduated from the Hanoi College of Fine Art in 1985. She is one of the few female artists who made lacquer painting their medium. Hoa specialises in semi-abstract and abstract paintings, however one can often recognize the contours of masks, faces, fish, lotus flowers or other organic forms in her work. The sensitivity that flows through her paintings is filled with depth and detail; it is full of feeling and abundant with life. The abundance that fills Cong Kim Hoa’s paintings is not merely representations of physical forms but rather expressions of her emotional knowledge and personal history. Hoa has participated in several art exhibitions abroad: China (1996), Singapore (1997, 2001), Germany (1997), Denmark (1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005), France (1998), Australia (1999), Argentina (1999), Sweden (1999), USA (1999), Netherlands (2000), Japan (2000, 2002), Hong Kong (2002), Thailand (2003) and Taiwan (2004). She recently staged a solo show at the Fine Art Museum of Vietnam, and her works were collected by the National Art Gallery of Malaysia. When looking at the reproduced images below, please note that lacquer paintings have a unique richness in colour and a luster, which cannot be done justice in photographs.
