Vietnamese Artists | Trinh Tuan
Trinh Tuan was born in Hanoi, in 1961. He completed his BA at the Hanoi Industrial College of Fine Art in 1985, his MA at Hanoi Institute of Fine Art in 2000 and is currently a Professor at the Hanoi Industrial College of Fine Art. His work is mostly figurative lacquer painting. Using this medium he treats subjects such as feelings and emotions. Often a single figure depicted in his paintings, can bring forth feelings of loneliness, sadness, or happiness and love. Often his paintings show couples with warm feelings for each other - or the opposite. His figures seem to have feelings inside which they unleash within his paintings. Tuan has exhibited abroad several times, in countries such as Japan (1996, 2000, 2002), China (1996, 2005), Germany (1997), Singapore (1997, 2000, 2001), Denmark (1998, 1999, 2000), France (1998), Argentina (1999), Laos (1999), Australia (1999), USA (1999), Thailand (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), Israel (2000, 2005), Netherlands (2000, 2001), Taiwan (2000), Hong Kong (2002), and Malaysia (2005). His paintings are, amongst others, in the collection of HRH the Crown Prince of Norway and the collection of the National Art Gallery of Malaysia. Tuan also represented Vietnam in OpenAsia 2004 in Venice, Italy. When looking at the reproduced images below, please note that lacquer paintings have a unique richness in colour and a lustre, which cannot be done justice in photographs.
